Did I survive options trading?

As mentioned in https://ainvestor.blogspot.com/2021/04/i-am-newbie.html, I want to try out options trading.

I have chose Palantir to try out selling of options due to the following reasons:

  • Its price at ~US$20+ is affordable.
  • It has good volatility.
  • It has weekly options.
My approach:

  • Use covered calls and cash secured puts; commonly known as the Wheel strategy.
  • Have a capital of ~US$8.5k
  • Hold 0 to 400 Palantir shares.
See the table below for my transactions over the past 4 months. I have collected a total premium of ~US$450. The first 7 transactions have higher fee because they are done via the Tiger Brokers. After that, I moved over to Interactive Brokers because it supports covered calls, cash secured puts and has much lower fee.

Based on this, I did some simple calculations...

Ideally,

Premium collected per week = US$80.
Premium collected per year = 80 x 52 = US$4160.
This is ~49% return based on US$8.5k!

Let's assume the success rate is 50% to include some losses...

Premium collected per year = 4160 x 0.5 = US$2080.
which would still give at least 25% return based on US$8.5k!

In conclusion, I feel that it is worth to use options to earn premium. During good days, its return is better than most of the dividend yield.
