Continue to show signs of bottoming for China tech stocks

as observed from the technical analysis of Alibaba, KWEB and 3067. Alibaba's chart has a potential inverse head-shoulder formation; currently at the right shoulder. As mentioned in this post http://ainvestor.blogspot.com/2021/10/is-this-beginning-of-convergence.html on 9 Oct 2021 that there are chances to buy in during a pullback which appear to be this right shoulder. A break above recent high at about US$182 should confirm a reversal. So what is needed for its price to surge above US$182? Coming soon is its result announcement on 18 Nov 2021. I am making assumption that we are currently at "Hope" of stage 4 market cycle mentioned here https://www.dsij.in/Insight/Mindshare/Article-Detail/Market-cycles-and-emotions.

Added AIMS @ $1.43.
Started new position on ComfortDelgro @ $1.51

Temasek, GIC, MAS and SGX

appear in the same piece of news - to aid in the boosting of Singapore's local stock market. https://www.businesstimes.com.sg/government-economy/temasek-gic-urged-to-juice-up-singapore-bourse-via-spacs-sources.

So which stocks would benefit from the above news? My guess it would at least provide some support to the recent weakness of STI ETF and SGX.

Added Ascott Trust @ $0.975.
Added 3067 @ HK$13.28.
Added KWEB @ US$50 (via options).

Are we in the Capitulation phase

for China tech bear market?

No doubt that China tech stocks are in bear market. Using KWEB ETF as reference, its price has dropped about 60% from its peak. The stock price of big China tech stocks such as Alibaba and Tencent, etc. have collapsed about 16% and 12% respectively for the past 1 week with high volume. The price movement looks similar to the Capitulation phase as describe below:

From https://www.investopedia.com/terms/c/capitulation.asp

Capitulation is when investors give up any previous gains in any security or market by selling their positions during periods of declines. Capitulation can happen at any time, but typically happens during high volume trading and extended declines for securities. A market correction or bear market often leads investors to capitulate or panic sell. The term is a derived from a military term which refers to surrender.

From https://www.dsij.in/DSIJArticleDetail/ArtMID/10163/ArticleID/12212/Market-cycles-and-emotions

Stage 3: Panic, capitulation & despondency

In the third stage, people start seeing the realities of a bear market and they may panic and to stop further losses, they in fact, move out of the market altogether. Those who still hold on to be in the market, become despondent and wonder if the markets would ever recover or whether they should stay in the market at all. The irony of the market is that, at these times, investor fails to recognise as currently, they are at the point of a maximum financial opportunity.

Even if we are currently in Capitulation phase, there is no way to tell how long it would last. However, as an investor, we would need to be able to hold through this rainy season.

US-listed China education stocks plunged

on Friday as Beijing regulators crack down. KWEB and BABA dropped 8.84% and 3.51% respectively. My oversea portfolio goes from -6% to -9% and KWEB is about -46% from its peak. I am not worry as long as the fundamental of these companies are still good :)

Be greedy when others are fearful.

I am happy to receive 1144 excess shares of IReit Global from its rights application.

Divested some Capitaland @ $3.87.

The war chest for my oversea portfolio

almost hit bottom due to china technology stocks (eg. KWEB) has plunged nearly 40% since its peak for the past 4 months. I would need some time to rebuild up my oversea portfolio's war chest. Currently, my oversea portfolio is in its deepest red at -6%, a big contrast with my local portfolio sitting at a profit of +20%.

Added AIMS @ $1.55.
Added KWEB @ US$63 (via short put option)

IReit Global starts its Preferential Offering

on 2 July with each share @ $0.595. Under the preferential offering at an allotment ratio of 214 new units for every 1000 existing units, I would be allocated 856 shares. However, I would definitely want to apply for excess shares :)

Moving forward, I would be using my Interactive Brokers account for US shares and options trading due to its low fee and fractional trading feature, I would be transferring my USD fund from Tiger Brokers to Interactive Brokers progressively. This can be done by withdrawing of USD from Tiger Brokers to my DBS multi currency account, then deposit them into Interactive Brokers.

Added OCBC @ $11.76.
Added KWEB @ US$70.
Added Alibaba @ US$223.
Divested some AIMS @ $1.52.

First purchase of Palantir

@ US$19.71 on 14 May 2021 in the process of trying out selling covered options. Currently, this purchase is sitting on some profit, and I am going to sell covered options to lower the purchase price.

Mapletree Industrial Trust has gone XR, and I holding some of MIT shares in both Tiger Brokers and Moomoo. I am still trying to figure out how to subscribe its shares via these trading platform. If you have any idea, please leave a comment to let me know. Thanks.

First Purchase of Ascendas Reit @ $2.91.
Added KWEB @ US$69.60.

STI plunged on the last trading day

of this week after government announced more restriction due to a surge in covid-19 cases and more clusters for the past few days. STI hits a low of 3023 and closed at 3053. I have placed several buy orders at lower price, but none of them get done. The next support of STI is at 3000 which I would be monitoring.

Added SGX @ $10.10.
Added KWEB @ US$66.15.
Added Alibaba @ US$211.

My oversea stock portfolio move deeper

into red; currently down by -3.18%. I would continue with DCA, but at a slower pace as I realized that I have been quite aggressive over past few months. I have decided to add more Capitaland as I believe it would move up before end of this year due to its restructuring, and technically, it has hit 50MA.

Divested some STI ETF @ $3.20.
Added Capitaland @ $3.575.
Added KWEB @ US$72.90.
Added Alibaba @ US$225.52.

Saturday, April 17, 2021

Although my oversea portfolio continues

to underperform, it didn't prevent me from executing my DCA strategy as shown below.

Added ASHR @ US$37.77.
Added KWEB @ US$75.28.
Added ARKX @ US$20.90.
Added Alibaba @ US$239.51.
First Purchase of HSTECH @ $1.371.

By end of this month, my local portfolio would be 12 months old. I would publish a post to show its stocks and how they have performed.

I noticed that Tiger Brokers has a Welcome gift promotion for new members: FREE share of Disney (US$187.26 as of today) + 60 commission free trades + 500 Tiger coins. Rebalance local portfolio

by taking some profits from banking stocks and move the capital into REITs and trusts. This shift is to make the existing profit work harder in order to give higher dividend return by end of this year. Up to this month, I would have collected $1489 dividend. Based on my plan, I have set a target to collect about $8000 for year 2021.

*** LATEST NEWS *** Alibaba is fined US$2.8 billion by Chinese Regulators. Bad news is this amount is more than expected. Good news is one big part of uncertainty is removed. Let's see how market would reach to this news on coming Monday; whether its share price has already priced in this amount of fined.

I have added a new member to my oversea portfolio as shown below.

Added Keppel DC Reit @ $2.71.
Added KWEB @ US$78.01.
Added ASHR @ US$38.85.
First purchase of ARKX @ US$20.87.

My oversea portfolio sink into red

while local portfolio continues to outperform.

CapitaLand has decided to privatize its development arm and consolidate its investment management and lodging platforms into CapitaLand Investment Management (CLIM). The implied consideration price for shareholders is attractive, at a significant 24-28% premium to its last Friday closing price of $3.31, with CapitaLand shareholders expected to receive an implied consideration of S$4.102 for every CapitaLand share.

Thus, I cannot control my itchy finger, and decided to add some CapitaLand when its share price retreats to $3.70.

Added CapitaLand @ $3.70.
Added CapitaLand China Tr @ $1.36.
Added KWEB @ US$80.05.
Added Alibaba @ US$230.41.
Sold some DBS @ $28.55.

I have also registered a Moomoo account, deposit of at least $2700, and made 3 trading transactions. With these 3 simple steps, I have gotten $30 stock voucher and ONE AAPL share for FREE!!

If you are interested to sign up a Moomoo account, and do not have a referral link from your friends, please use mine: https://j.moomoo.com/004Sla

Thanks :)

STI continues to show strength

while US and China markets are showing volatility. STI has managed to stay above 3000 which has turned support. However, do note that there is a gap created above 3000 which may need to be filled up.

I continue to strengthen both my local and oversea portfolio:

Mapletree Log Tr @ $1.88.
ST Engineering @ $3.85.
ASHR @ US$38.43 (corrected ~17% from peak).
KWEB @ US$83.50 (corrected ~21% from peak).

Give STI a Tiger

beer as it outperformed US indices past week. My oversea portfolio continues to weaken, and I have made 2 purchases based on my plan stated in http://ainvestor.blogspot.com/2021/02/monthly-summary-of-february-2021.html, and I also strengthen my local portfolio for dividend yield.

Added Alibaba @ US$231.
Added KWEB @ US$82.
Added Mapletree Industrial Tr @ $2.62.
Added Mapletree Log Tr @ $1.82.
Divested some UOB @ $25.45.

Based on my current investment of $170k in my local portfolio and lower dividend yield of 4% due to pandemic, I am expecting this year dividend to be about $7k.

Monthly Summary of February 2021

Surprisingly, the return rate (%) of my local stock portfolio has overtaken my oversea one after just one month. STI has fought back.. LOL.

I have divested some STI ETF @ $2.94 and added the following:

  • ASHR @ US$41.38.
  • Alibaba @ US$244.51.
  • KWEB @ US$91.96.
If the selling of the above stocks continue, I would plan my next purchase as follow:
  • Alibaba at ~US$231.
  • ASHR at ~US$39-40 (100MA).
  • KWEB at ~US$83 (100MA).
However, if the price move sideway or goes up, I would continue with DCA strategy.

Added KWEB @ US$99.45.
Added BABA @ US$269.30.

Wish everyone have prosperous Chinese New Year.

Market correction in progress

with both S&P 500 and STI down ~4% from recent peak. I would monitor the 50MA and 100MA of S&P 500.

I have taken the chance to broaden my portfolio by including Mapletree Logistics Trust @ $1.99. Currently, I have a total of 17 stocks in my local portfolio.

Also added:

ST Engineering @ $3.77.
Capitaland Int Com Tr @ $2.20.
KWEB @ US$91.33.

Local Portfolio (S$)
Investing: $171192

S&P 500 is overbought

and I am expecting pullback in coming weeks or months; about 5-15% correction. With this in mind, I am going to slow down investment for my local portfolio, and may do some rebalancing to my portfolio. I would also use this period to strengthen my war chest.

For my oversea portfolio, I would continue with the DCA strategy but at a reduced amount for ASHR and KWEB since both also seem quite overbought recently. My plan for Alibaba is already mentioned in https://ainvestor.blogspot.com/2021/01/jack-ma-1st-public-appearance.html.

One more trading week to end January 2021. Another 11 months for me to achieve my plan mentioned in https://ainvestor.blogspot.com/2020/12/summary-for-2020.html.

Always follow a plan in investing. Cheers!

Gold has continued its retreat

and is getting into my radar. I have mentioned in my previous post that I would plan to include Gold related investment into my portfolio in 2021. I would monitor to execute my first purchase of goldmine ETF based on technical analysis.

STI is back to 3000 after ~11 months - a surge of about 580 points (~24%) since Nov 2020. For the past week, I have:

Sold some Jardine C&C @ $22.02.
Added KWEB @ US$79.90.
Added Alibaba @ US$242.75.

STI ranged between 2968 and 3012.

Saturday, December 26, 2020

Short and quiet trading week

before Christmas. Santa Claus has decided not to give any gift to investors :(

I have added ASHR @ US$38.51 and KWEB @ US$76.75. Alibaba has captured my attention when it retreated 38.2% from its peak 1 month+ ago. Now, I going to start to monitor it after it plunged to US$222/HK$228 on 24 Dec 2020. However, I would need a plan if I want to invest in Alibaba. Should it be buy at support levels or DCA?

STI ranged between 2834 and 2847.
