Both my US and HK portfolio are still in

RED, as I have been focusing more on China tech stocks. However, they have recovered quite a bit for past 1 to 2 weeks. For US portfolio, from -25% to -14%, and for HK portfolio, from -16% to -5%. I am practicing *** diamond hands *** as I believe in the companies that I am holding.

At the same time, I am using options to collect premium to help in the recovery. From the past 5 months since I started learning options trading, I have collected US$2200.

Reduced Jardine C&C @ $23.02.
Reduced CICT @ $2.11.
Added SGX @ $10.69.
Reduced ST Engineering @ $3.92.
Added Mapletree Ind Tr @ $2.74.

China Evergrande Crisis has created

more fear in the stock market as shown by the Fear & Greed Index. So what do you plan to do?

No one could know when is the bottom for China tech sector. What I would do is to continue DCA on 9988 and 3067, and to practice ***diamond hand***.

CapitaLand has been replaced with CapitaLandInvest. Its share price has surged up from the consideration price of $2.823, closed at $3.30 on Friday. I have made some adjustment to my local portfolio spreadsheet, and CapitaLandInvest is currently the 2nd best performance!

Added AIMS @ $1.43.
Added SGX @ $10.08.
Reduced ST Engineering @ $3.86.
Added 9988 @ HK$147.

Are we in the Capitulation phase

for China tech bear market?

No doubt that China tech stocks are in bear market. Using KWEB ETF as reference, its price has dropped about 60% from its peak. The stock price of big China tech stocks such as Alibaba and Tencent, etc. have collapsed about 16% and 12% respectively for the past 1 week with high volume. The price movement looks similar to the Capitulation phase as describe below:

From https://www.investopedia.com/terms/c/capitulation.asp

Capitulation is when investors give up any previous gains in any security or market by selling their positions during periods of declines. Capitulation can happen at any time, but typically happens during high volume trading and extended declines for securities. A market correction or bear market often leads investors to capitulate or panic sell. The term is a derived from a military term which refers to surrender.

From https://www.dsij.in/DSIJArticleDetail/ArtMID/10163/ArticleID/12212/Market-cycles-and-emotions

Stage 3: Panic, capitulation & despondency

In the third stage, people start seeing the realities of a bear market and they may panic and to stop further losses, they in fact, move out of the market altogether. Those who still hold on to be in the market, become despondent and wonder if the markets would ever recover or whether they should stay in the market at all. The irony of the market is that, at these times, investor fails to recognise as currently, they are at the point of a maximum financial opportunity.

Even if we are currently in Capitulation phase, there is no way to tell how long it would last. However, as an investor, we would need to be able to hold through this rainy season.

Divested some Capitaland @ $4.01.
Bought SembCorp @ $1.94.
Added SGX @ $10.67.
Added ST Engineering @ $3.95.
Added 9988 @ HK$167.

Mapletree Industrial Tr's CR

is at $2.65; representing about 5% discount from the current price. Under the preferential offering at an allotment ratio of 5 new units for every 100 existing units, I would be allocated 225 shares. However, I would try to apply for more shares :)

Divested all ComfortDelgro @ $1.57.
Added ST Engineering @ $3.76.
Added Mapletree Log Tr @ $1.90.
Added Alibaba @ US$212.60.

STI continues to show strength

while US and China markets are showing volatility. STI has managed to stay above 3000 which has turned support. However, do note that there is a gap created above 3000 which may need to be filled up.

I continue to strengthen both my local and oversea portfolio:

Mapletree Log Tr @ $1.88.
ST Engineering @ $3.85.
ASHR @ US$38.43 (corrected ~17% from peak).
KWEB @ US$83.50 (corrected ~21% from peak).

Market correction in progress

with both S&P 500 and STI down ~4% from recent peak. I would monitor the 50MA and 100MA of S&P 500.

I have taken the chance to broaden my portfolio by including Mapletree Logistics Trust @ $1.99. Currently, I have a total of 17 stocks in my local portfolio.

Also added:

ST Engineering @ $3.77.
Capitaland Int Com Tr @ $2.20.
KWEB @ US$91.33.

What is the next target for STI

after covering the gap mentioned in http://ainvestor.blogspot.com/2020/12/broaden-my-portfolio.html? From weekly chart, STI formed a double bottom and back test at 2800 before moving up to 2900+ region. Potential target for a double bottom formation would be ~3100-3200. This may take few weeks/months.

Currently, STI is moving up due to recovery of cyclical stocks. As STI moves up, I would adopt a re-invest strategy and look out for opportunities to broaden my portfolio.

Did a divestment and several investments this week; mostly based on technical analysis.

Sold some SGX @ $9.76.
Added ST Engineering @ $3.78.
Added Keppel DC Reit @ $2.72.
Added Alibaba @ US$229.55.
Added ASHR @ US$42.55.

STI ranged between 2832 and 2993.

2500 level is the battle field

for STI. We should be able to see a clearer picture next week to determine whether it is support turn resistance level.

I have decided to make my future share purchase via Tiger Brokers because its low fee is too attractive, and really make a different to me as a small investor.

Managed to divest all my SGX @ $8.84, and purchase the following:

  • ST Eng @ $3.34 (my first local share purchase via Tiger Brokers)
  • KWEB @ US$68.45
STI ranged between 2481 and 2517.

STI just give back

what it gained last week. Easy come, easy go. LOL.

All companies in my portfolio have announced their results, and most of them are weak, but within expectation. Dividend yield also drop as compared to previous year.

I believe previous quarter is the worst, and will continue to build up my portfolio. Manage to nibble the following:

  • ST Eng @ $3.42
  • ASHR @ US$34.40

STI ranged between 2506 and 2596.

Didn't follow my plan

due to a plunge in STI on the last trading day of July 2020; very near support level at 2500.
I have forgotten to apply medical oil on my itchy fingers. LOL.

Nibbled on the following shares:
  • DBS @ $19.62
  • OCBC @ $8.67
  • UOB @ $19.65
  • ASHR @ US$33.78
Broaden my portfolio with these purchases:
  • SGX @ $8.13
  • ST Eng @ $3.26
STI ranged between 2511 and 2603.
